Comparison of flow and forces between real scale and wind tunnel scale

I did the wind tunnel simulation of Perrinn myP1 and compared it with the real scale simulation.

1. Conditions
Length Scale: 50%
Wind Speed: 40m/s

2. Forces
frontal area is scaled in real size.

CDA = Cd * A (frontal area)
CDAp = CDA by pressure
CDAv = CDA by viscosity
CLA = Cl * A
CLAf = Front CLA
CLAr = Rear CLA
L/D = DownForce / Drag
DF Fr% = FrontDownForce/DownForce

Drag is not much different, while downforce is smaller in wind tunnel scale.

3. Visualisation
Cp calculated by (pressure - 101325)/(0.5*1.225*50^2)

Cp difference compared with real scale

Y=0mm plane

Y=750mm (in real scale) plane

CpT calculated by (pressure - 101325 + 0.5*rho*mag(U)^2)/(0.5*1.225*50^2)

X=0mm plane

X=2950mm (in real scale) plane

Y=0mm plane

Y=750mm (in real scale) plane

CpT difference compared with real scale

X=0mm plane

X=2950mm (in real scale) plane

Y=0mm plane

Y=750mm (in real scale) plane

  1. hello

    how were you able to make those CpT difference images

    1. Hi,

      I think I did it by using foamCalc utility.
